ITHACA, N.Y. – The Boston Pride selected forward
Finley Frechette '21 with its first pick in the National Women's Hockey League Draft on Tuesday night.
Frechette was selected in the fourth round with the 21st overall pick in the draft, and was one of the Pride's two selections on the evening.
The draft was broadcast on Twitch, with a replay of the event available here.
Frechette will be joining a Pride team that captured the league's 2021 championship, the Isobel Cup. In her three seasons before the COVID-19 pandemic truncated her collegiate career with the Big Red, Frechette played in 101 of the team's 102 games while scoring seven goals to go with five assists for 12 points.
"Finley was a great leader for us at Cornell," said
Doug Derraugh '91, the Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Ice Hockey. "Finley is a fierce competitor who plays a very smart game at both ends of the ice. She was also a two-sport athlete, having played varsity lacrosse as well."
With the selection, the Pride has a two-week window in which to exclusively negotiate with Frechette – who originally hails from the Boston suburb of Weston – on a contract for the 2021-22 season. Should no agreement be reached, Frechette would become eligible for free agency on July 14.
