PRINCETON, N.J. – Following a week which saw the Cornell men's soccer team earn victories over High Point (4-1), Saint Joseph's (2-1) and UC Santa Barbara (4-3, 2OT), fifth year midfielder
Tyler Bagley has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week.
Bagley was hot all week scoring five goals and contributing two assists to raise his season point total to 12. A pair of two-goal games against High Point and UC Santa Barbara highlighted the week for Bagley, who earns his first Ivy League Player of the Week award. Bagley's two assists each came on game-winning goals when he found
Matthew Goncalves and
Henry Hylbert on corner kick chances.
"His finishing is phenomenal," head coach
John Smith said. "Last fall when we were doing more individual training he mostly focused on his finishing. When he went away with the Boston Bolts you saw a guy who grew his level of confidence."
With 12 points on the season, Bagley has already surpassed the team season-high of 11 set by
Harry Fuller and JP Scearce in 2019. It's Cornell men's soccer's first Ivy League weekly award since
Griffin Garrard won Rookie of the Week on October 14, 2019. Bagley's is Cornell men's soccer's first Ivy League Player of the Week since Ryan Bayne on September 30, 2019.
Hylbert earned Ivy League honorable mention honors this week after scoring the game-winning goal on Sunday night in the Big Red's 4-3 win over UC Santa Barbara.
After playing three games in six days, Cornell gets a bit of a break before traveling to Madison, New Jersey on Saturday, September 18 for a match against Fairleigh Dickinson University.
