Browning's 35-Save Shutout Leads Women's Hockey Past #10 Clarkson

ITHACA, N.Y. — The forward line of juniors Izzy Daniel and Gillis Frechette, and sophomore Lily Delianedis combined for three goals, and graduate student Lindsay Browning made 35 saves to shut out Clarkson and lead the Cornell women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over the 10th-ranked Golden Knights on Tuesday night at Lynah Rink.

Daniel got the scoring started in the game's fifth minute by finishing off a pass from Frechette on a two-on-one rush. Delianedis doubled the lead early in the second when Frechette whipped the puck toward goal from the beyond the circles to set up Delianedis' deflection for her team-leading 10th goal of the campaign.

Frechette then put Cornell (8-8-1, 6-5-1 ECAC Hockey) she poked a loose puck underneath Clarkson goaltender Alexa Madrid after Delianedis threw it on goal from the left corner. Each member of the trio scored once and assisted on their linemates' goals.

Meanwhile, Browning was keeping Clarkson (18-4-3, 9-3-1) at bay despite the visitors holding an increasing growing margin in shots on goal. Her biggest save came with eight minutes remaining when Nicole Gosling sprung Gabrielle David on a breakaway up the middle of the ice, with Browning shrugging off a shot with her left shoulder. Freshman blueliner Rory Guilday then closed the scoring on an unassisted empty-net goal from 150 feet late in the third.

For Browning, her fifth shutout of the season ranks highest among all goaltenders in the ECAC Hockey. It's also the 17th shutout of her collegiate career, which moves her to within one of tying for second place on the program's all-time record list (Lauren Slebodnick '13 had 18).

The game was a rescheduled affair after the teams' game originally slated for Jan. 14 was postponed due to health and safety protocols.

Up next for Cornell is another ECAC Hockey road trip that starts with a 6 p.m. Friday contest at Princeton before it shuttles up the megalopolis to take on Quinnipiac at 3 p.m. Saturday.
