ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's hockey team scored inside 24 seconds of all three periods,
Lindsay Browning made 20 saves for her fourth shutout of the season, and the Big Red cruised to a 5-0 triumph over Dartmouth on Saturday at Lynah Rink to record the 300th career victory for
Doug Derraugh '91, the Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Hockey.
Gillis Frechette and
Izzy Daniel both posted a goal and two assists, including the two helpers on
Lily Delianedis' first of two goals on the afternoon just 24 seconds into the game. Daniel doubled the lead with a highlight-reel unassisted goal at the 6:09 mark in which she weaved her way through Dartmouth's entire defense on a three-zone rush.
Cornell (5-7-1, 4-4-1) would need just 18 seconds to strike again after the first intermission, with Delianedis again converting when she found her own rebound slithering behind Dartmouth (8-9, 2-8) goaltender Maggie Emerson. Exactly 20 minutes later, it was Frechette poking in a rebound.
Gabbie Rud then closed the scoring with 18:19 to play.
Ashley Messier and
Makenna Chokelal assisted on both third-period goals, with those helpers serving as Chokelal's first collegiate points.
Browning made the bulk of her hardest saves in the third period, anchoring the Big Red penalty kill to a perfect 5-for-5 effort. The shutout was the 16th of her career, moving her into solo possession of third place on the program's all-time list.
With the victory, Derraugh became the 11th active head coach in NCAA Division I women's hockey to reach the 300-win plateau.
