Frechette, Delianedis Lead Team Red to Victory in Red - White Game

ITHACA, N.Y. – Gillis Frechette and Lily Delianedis each logged three-point nights for Team Red in its 8-6 victory over Team White at the Red – White Game on Friday night at Lynah Rink.

The event, which was held for the first time since Oct. 18, 2019, featured two 30-minute halves and the Cornell men's and women's hockey programs alternated shifts. Power play and empty net situations were also various times throughout. All penalties that would be normally enforced resulted in penalty shots.

Both teams were given penalty shots to open action as players from both squads did not leave the ice from warmups by the designated time.

Paige Kenyon took the first penalty shot for Team Red but missed the net and Georgia Schiff's attempt for Team White was saved by Brynn DuLac.

It only took 16 seconds for the first goal to be scored on the night as Team White's Alyssa Regalado netted an unassisted goal.

Team Red countered Regalado's early strike with four unanswered goals, two of which came in a 23-second stretch by Frechette and Mckenna Van GelderIzzy Daniel added an insurance marker at 26:07 of the first half.

Sullivan Mack opened the string of consecutive goals by Team Red, scoring on a penalty shot at just over three and a half minutes in.

Mack's goal on the penalty shot was the lone successful attempt taken on the night. The remaining five – including the two prior to puck drop – were either saved, shot wide, or hit the post.

Ashley Messier snapped Team Red's scoring streak with a goal just shy of three minutes into the second half as Messier capitalized on a pass from Avi Adam.

Frechette later logged her second goal and third point of the night to give Team Red a 5-2 lead over six minutes into the half.

Regalado netted her second goal of the night with an assist from Kaitlin Jockims with exactly three minutes left, in an attempt to ignite a Team White comeback.

Kyle Penney appeared to thwart Team White's comeback by scoring an empty-net goal with 1:55 left in regulation, but Sam Malinski added an empty-net goal of his own for Team White with 46 seconds left to make it a 6-4 contest.

Van Gelder and Frechette each scored for Team Red in the women's shootout to increase its lead. Team White's Gabriel Seger and Ben Berard were the lone players to score in the men's portion of the shootout.
