ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy used the big strike passing game to build a big halftime lead and never looked back in a 55-0 victory over Cornell on Friday evening in a sprint football battle at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The defending CSFL champion improved to 4-0, while the Big Red slipped to 0-3.
Navy's Brandon Atwood completed 10-of-14 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as Navy led 27-0 at the break. The Midshipmen delivered touchdown passes of 69, 70 and 89 yards to Andrew Margiotta, who posted five receptions for 250 yards and the three scores. Both Manny Walt and Alex Totta had two rushing touchdowns apiece for the home team. Defensively, David Niski posted four sacks and forced a fumble in the win.
Luke Verzella caught six passes for 96 yards, with
Jacob Wynkoop (12 rushes, 48 yards) and
Ralph Fleuranvil (14 rushes, 39 yards) leading the rushing game.
Xavier Martinez was 7-of-17 passing for 100 yards.
Evan Nicholas was credited with seven tackles and a forced fumble, with Max Delahunta in on seven stops as well.
Cornell returns to action on Friday, Oct. 14 when it welcomes Penn to Schoellkopf Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
