ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's fencing team started strong at the 2022 Vassar Invitational, going 7-1 with only a narrow 15-12 defeat at the hands of No. 9 Northwestern the only blemish on the weekend. The Big Red went 178-38 in individual bouts over eight duals. Cornell earned dominant wins over Drew (25-2), Stevens (24-3), Cleveland State (26-1), Lafayette (26-1), Long Island (24-3) and Wagner (23-4), with a more competitive triumph over Sacred Heart (18-9).
While every healthy student-athlete earned opportunities to compete, several stood out. In epee, freshman
Nora Weber (16-1) led three Big Red fencers with double-digit wins with the weapon and four overall. Senior
Emily Gao (13-0) and freshman
Mallika Ketkar (13-3) also made outstanding season debut. Sophomore
Sarah Lacson was 12-0 in sabre, where six different fencers earned at least seven wins on the day. Both freshman
Meeah Bradford and senior
Briana Parris were a perfect 9-0 on the day with the foil.
Cornell will head to Penn's Elite Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 19 in Philadelphia, Pa.
