Following his two-goal performance in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship match against Maryland on Sunday, sophomore
Danny Lokko has been named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
Lokko scored twice in a three-minute span to break open what was a scoreless game to aid Cornell to a 2-1 victory over Maryland, marking Cornell's first NCAA Tournament win since 1977 and clinching a spot in the Sweet 16.
The pair of goals by Lokko marked the first multi-goal game for the Chester, United Kingdom native. He has now scored all three of his collegiate goals in his last two matches.
Cornell is the first Ivy League team to make it past the second round since Brown reached the third round in 2011. It is the farthest the Big Red has been in an NCAA Tournament since reaching the quarterfinals in 1975.
The Big Red, who is the No. 14 seed in this year's tournament, will travel to No. 3-seeded Syracuse on Sunday, Nov. 27. First touch between the pair of Central New York programs is scheduled for 2 p.m.
It will be the second time this year that Cornell and Syracuse are playing each other. The Big Red posted a 2-1 victory over the Orange on Oct. 4.
