ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell women's basketball tallied a 57-50 win over Western Kentucky on Friday, November 25. The Big Red kept WKU from hitting a hot streak, after the Lady Toppers trounced Miami (OH), 91-55. Senior captain
Ania McNicholas tallied a team-high 17 points in the contest. She also lead the team in steals with seven.
Cornell opened the first quarter in quick fashion, going on a 6-0 run where the Big Red forced six turnovers, causing WKU to call a timeout with less than three minutes into the contest. The break in play didn't stop the Red, who went on to out score the Lady Toppers 8-5 to close out the first quarter.
The Big Red remained strong in the second quarter, not dropping below a seven point lead in the 10 minute period. At halftime, Cornell had already forced 18 turnovers by the Lady Toppers. McNicholas already led both team in scoring heading into the break, clocking seven points.
Cornell expanded its lead to 12 at 33-21 with 5:32 remaining in the third, but WKU found an 8-0 run to begin the close the gap. The Lady Toppers continued to chip away, bringing up a one point game with :56 seconds remaining in the third. A
Mia Beam free throw helped the Big Red to a two point lead at the final quarter break, leading 36-34.
WKU kept the ball game close, trailing by just one at 39-38 with 8:14 to go in the game. A 13-0 Cornell run though stretched the lead out to 52-38, practically sealing the game for the Red.

Kaya Ingram drew 10 fouls in the contest. WKU committed 30 in the outing.
