ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 9-ranked Cornell women's hockey team put on a show against the No. 10-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights in a convincing 8-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink, keeping its unbeaten home record alive.
Cornell was looking to bounce back defensively from its 7-6 win on Friday night against St. Lawrence and the Big Red came out blazing with two goals in the first 64 seconds.
The opening goal was scored by
Georgia Schiff with assists credited to
Mckenna Van Gelder and
Kaitlin Jockims. The latter marker was scored by
Ashley Messier and was assisted by
Izzy Daniel and
Gillis Frechette.
Gretchen Branton netted the Golden Knights' lone goal in the first period, intercepting a Big Red pass and notching an impressive unassisted goal to bring Clarkson within one.
Cornell exploded in the second period with five unanswered goals to put the Big Red ahead 7-1 at the end of the period. Van Gelder,
Rory Guilday,
Alyssa Regalado, Daniel, and Frechette all scored during the run.
Paige Kenyon tacked on the final goal of the contest with seven minutes remaining, giving the Big Red an insurance marker.
Next Matchup
The Big Red returns to action on Friday, Nov. 11 when it travels to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and game action will broadcast on ESPN+.
