NEW YORK – The Cornell women's track and field team made its presence known on the first day of the Rutgers Open on Friday at The Armory, setting itself up for a successful second day as the meet continues on Saturday.

Senior jumper Leone Farquharson and junior thrower Phoebe Price-Roberts headlined numerous strong performances for the Big Red on day one. Farquharson remained undefeated on the season in the long jump, winning the event for the fifth time this season with a leap of 6.24m (20-05.75) in the championship flight. Freshman Tia Taylor represented Cornell well in the college division of the event, placing second with a collegiate-best jump of 5.74m (18-10.00).

Price-Roberts continued her constant improvement in the weight throw, notching a personal-best for the second-straight week with a throw of 17.90m (58-08.00). Not only was her heave good for a fifth place showing in the championship division of the event, but it ranks sixth all-time in Cornell history.

The Big Red did an excellent job of advancing student-athletes to the next rounds of the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash, with every Cornell runner entered in both events moving beyond the preliminary rounds. All-three Big Red student-athletes in the 60-meter hurdles finished in the top-five of the qualifying round, advancing to Saturday's finals. Senior Brooke Overholt posted the fastest qualifying time of all competitors, matching her personal-best of 8.54. Senior Beatrice Juskeviciute finished second in prelims in 8.58, while junior Ama Boham placed fifth with a personal-best time of 8.60. Overholt's and Boham's marks sit third and fourth, respectively, in the Big Red record books. Freshman Jada Smith was Cornell's top-qualifier in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.72, and she will be joined in the semifinals of the event on Saturday by Farquharson.

Overholt also excelled in the 400-meter, clocking a personal-best for the second-straight week and finishing the race in 55.63 to finish fifth. Senior Kayleigh Furth finished one spot behind in sixth in 56.46.

Seniors Lucy Hurt and Natalie Morris both notched top-three finishes in their respective distance events, with Hurt placing second in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:52.41 and Morris finishing third in the 5,000-meter in 17:31.59.

Action will resume at the Rutgers Open this morning at 11 a.m.
