NEW YORK, N.Y. — Cornell women's indoor track and field opened competition Saturday at the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heptagonal Championships hosted by Columbia at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, highlighted by a title-winning performance in the pole vault and seven qualifiers advancing to Sunday's finals.

Avery Hilliard delivered the top performance of the day for the Big Red, winning the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.28 meters to claim the Ivy title.

Comments from the Coaching Staff:

• Paula-Marie Brown was phenomenal this weekend, juggling a huge load for the team. She recorded personal bests across the board in each event in the Pentathlon, leading it in point total heading into the final event. She finished third overall in the Pentathlon at a CUTF no. 2 all time mark. She also competed in the open long jump and placed 5th individually there. Her PBs in just about every event also rank on our top 10 lists.

• Women's Weight Throw was fantastic, all three of our women advancing to a nine-person final. Gabriella Vizcarrondo stepped up and delivered for the team to score with a fourth place finish.

• Avery Hilliard definitely shone in the Pole Vault, but Lauren Cashman had a big breakthrough too with a personal best and fifth place finish.

• Maisie McManus raced with a composed boldness to take sixth place in the 3000m final Saturday afternoon. That's a PB and a CUTF top-10 list mark too! 

At the end of day one, Cornell Women's Indoor Track & Field team stands in third place with 25 team points.
