ALFRED, N.Y. – The Cornell equestrian team kicked off its second semester in winning fashion, taking the title of High Point Team by a margin of 16 points at Alfred on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Alfred, N.Y. The victory marked the sixth High Point Team title for the Big Red in seven shows this season, and the Big Red currently leads the region by 38 points with the Regional Championship just two weeks away.
Competing in the open flat and fences divisions for the first time of her career, senior Annaliese Hines didn't skip a beat, winning her open flat class and finishing fourth in open fences. Senior Liza Pacchiana picked up a victory in what was a huge intermediate flat class.
Junior Katherine Philipp dominated in limit fences and senior captain Talia Aley put on a show in limit flat, as both riders emerged victorious.
Other highlights included wins for freshman Caly Stewart and sophomore Taylor Haines in their limit classes, while junior Claudia Arredondo placed second in introductory in her collegiate debut. Freshman Caroline Gaudet finished third in novice in just her second show of the season.
The Cornell equestrian team will return to Alfred for another show on Saturday, Feb. 26 in Alfred, N.Y.
