NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track and field team took third at the 2022 Heptagonal Championship when the meet concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Armory. The Big Red scored 82 points, 26 clear of fourth place, with its depth putting it on the podium.
Christian Martin was the runner-up in the 60 meter hurdles after a blistering 7.91, just .04 off the winning time of Princeton's Christian Brown.
Tomas Kersulis (47.01) was also runner-up in the 400 meters with a school record time, with teammate
Angus Dove right behind in fourth with a 48.13. Kersulis also scored with a fourth place run in the 200 meters, as his time of 21.41 bettered the 2020 championship time.
Rhys Hammond (2:24.75) and
Brady Shute (2:25.24) finished 2-3 in the 1,000 meters with
Alex Mocarski taking sixth and scoring with an IC4A qualifying time of 2:26.08.
Rishabh Prakash took seventh in a fast 5,000 meters, as his time of 14:07.93 was one of 11 finishes that were better than the 2020 championship clocking. His time ranks second all-time at Cornell.
At relay time, the distance medley team of
Marek Nowak,
Sam Young, Shute and
Greg Fusco held for third in 9:54.35, with the 4x800 relay taking second to earn its runners (
Eric Eng, Mocarski,
Damian Hackett, Hammond) All-Ivy honors after punching a 7:31.32. The 4x400 team of Martin,
Fabien De Silva, Dove and Kersulis ran an All-Ivy race as well, as its 3:11.27 tied Princeton for second.
