Sailing Takes A Strong Third At King Team Race

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Cornell sailing team hit the water for the first time this spring, finishing a strong third at the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race this weekend at the Walker Sailing Complex. The Big Red raced to a 13-8 record, finishing behind on No. 3 Dartmouth and No. 4 Stanford.

The sixth-ranked Big Red finished three wins ahead of Charleston and No. 14 Jacksonville, with No. 16 George Washington and No. 20 South Florida rounding out the field.

Cornell had one of the two wins over Stanford on the weekend, finishing 1-2-6 in the final four after three rounds of sailing had Cornell third with a 12-6 mark. 

Cornell went 4-2 in round one with wins over Charleston, George Washington, Jacksonville and South Florida, then went 5-1 in round two with its only loss to the Cardinal. The Big Red qualified for the finals with a 3-3 third roundd to finish perfect on the weekend against Charleston, George Washington and South Florida.

The Big Red boatings included Brooke Shachoy and Amelia Neumann, Lillian Myers and Gabbi DelBello and Bridget Green and Jana Laurendeau.

The Big Red will remain on the team race circuit when it competes at Harvard's Wood Trophy Team Race on March 12 and 13 in Cambridge, Mass.
