WEST POINT, N.Y. – The women's tennis team cruised to its third straight victory on Saturday with a 4-0 decision over Army West Point at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Doubles was tightly contested, but Cornell (3-7) prevailed from the bottom two positions to take the opening point of the day. Freshman
Alexandra Savu (#6) and senior
Katherine Nguyen (#2) won comfortably in their respective singles matches to bring the Big Red advantage to 3-0.
Among the remaining four matches, senior
Valerie Ho (#4) forced her opponent to a third set and was up an early break when play was halted. Sophomore
Jenny Wong (#5) was deep into a second set and freshman
Lan Mi (#1) was a couple tiebreaker points away from winning in her respective second set.
But the clincher came from the #3 position. Sophomore
Lauren Stein was forced to a third set there, but stormed back to win easily for the Big Red's fourth point and a 17-1 all-time record against the Black Knights. It was just Stein's opponent's second loss among her 11 singles matches to reach completion in duals.
Cornell concludes its weekend trip with a 10 a.m. Sunday match against Boston University at Harvard's Murr Center.
