ITHACA, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey announced Wednesday that sophomore forward
Lily Delianedis has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year.
Delianedis led the Big Red with 14 goals this season, and her 27 points ranked third-highest on the team behind just her two traditional linemates, juniors
Gillis Frechette and
Izzy Daniel.
A consistent contributor throughout the season, Delianedis really hit her stride with eight points over a five-game span right after the team returned from the intersession hiatus. That led to her being named January's rookie of the month first for ECAC Hockey, and then nationally from the Hockey Commissioners Association. Her average of 0.47 goals per game this season ranks fifth-highest among all newcomers to the collegiate level.
Other finalists for this year's honor were Brown's Kaley Doyle and St. Lawrence's Abby Hustler.
Delianedis becomes Cornell's fourth ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year since the honor's inception in 1985, and the first since recent Olympic gold medal recipient Jillian Saulner '15 in 2012. The others were Rebecca Johnson '12 in 2008 and Catherine White '13 in 2009.
