Brazier's Golden Goal Makes Winner Of Women's Lax At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Shannon Brazier scored her first goal of the night 1:19 into the second overtime to give the Cornell women's lacrosse team a 10-9 victory over Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. The Big Red improved to 5-3 (2-1 Ivy) with the victory, while the Crimson slipped to 3-4 (1-1 Ivy).

Four times Cornell rallied after trailing by two goals, including in the fourth, and tied it up in the final minute of regulation on a Sophie Alois score. Both teams put shots on goal that were saved by the goalkeepers, who did yeoman's work in keeping their teams in the game. Katie McGahan made 11 saves, including one in each of the two segments that comprised the first overtime and moved into fourth place on the school's career list in the process with 363.

Alois, who scored with 53 seconds left to knot the game at 9-9, had three goals and an assist for a team-best four points. Sophie Ward added a hat trick and both Genevieve DeWinter and Amanda Cramer were credited with a goal and two assists. DeWinter added two caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Hilary Hoover scooped up four ground balls and also caused two miscues. Annie Thomas won nine of Cornell's 12 draw controls.

Harvard's Caroline Mullahy had two goals and three assists and Callie Hem scored three times, while Chloe Provenzano made 11 stops in goal, including one in overtime.

The Big Red led for a total of 3:35 in regulation as Harvard nearly led wire-to-wire, though the first wire didn't begin until more than 10 minutes in. Neither team could find the back of the net until Hem scored the first of her three goals with 4:59 left on the clock.

Cornell tied the game at 1-1, 3-3, 6-6 and 9-9, with Alois taking a feed from Cramer on the crease and finishing after play resumed after a Big Red timeout with just over a minute to play. Six minutes of scoreless overtime play resulted in three shots being saved. The fourth put on goal, this one by Brazier, ended the game after 67:19 of play.

The Big Red will welcome Albany to Schoellkopf Field on Tuesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
