ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team took seventh at the Seahawk Women's Team Race and eighth for the Joseph R. Duplin Trophy this past weekend, adding to their collection of top 10 regatta finishes.
At the Seahawk regatta, the Big Red was 6-4 after round one, finishing tied for fourth with three additional teams. That forced a sail off with Charleston, George Washington and Tulane. Cornell went 0-3, dropping it into the Silver 5 grouping. The Big Red went a perfect 4-0, finishing the weekend 10-4 overall, after posting the top two finishers in all of its final races. Cornell's .714 winning percentage ranked third among all teams.
Brooke Shachoy sailed in boat one with
Jana Laurendeau amd
Amelia Neumann during the weekend, while
Lauren Ehnot and
Sophia Fogarty in bat two and
Bridget Green with
Louisa Bjerke and Laurendeau.
The Big Red was 2-8 in racing at the Duplin, missing out on the final four in a regatta won by Brown. Cornell's lone win in round one came against Bowdoin, sweeping two meetings with them over the two days. Cornell had the winning boat in three of its losses. COrnell's three racing boats were comprised of
J.J. Smith and
Susie Foster,
Lucija Ruzevic and
Clara Hewson, and
Meredith Moran and
Lilly Bjerke.
Cornell will compete in the MAISA Women's Team Race Championship, hosted by Georgetown, over April 2-3 in Washington, D.C.
