SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's rowing team raced hard for the Cayuga and Class of 1975 Cups this past weekend at the Saratoga Duels on Fish Creek, collecting five top two race finishes in 12 starts throughout the day.
In the race for the Class of 1975 Cup against Harvard, Princeton and Bucknell, the Big Red varsity eight took fourth in a time of 6:59.97. The eight returned to the water later in the afternoon to row Yale and Bucknell for the Cayuga Cup, crossing the line third in 7:08.05.
The top finish of the day came for the second varsity four, which topped Yale B and Bucknell in their second race of the day in 8:11.39. Their top time of the day came in the morning when it posted a 7:52.37 time in taking third behind Princeton and Harvard and ahead of the Bison for the first time on the day.
The varsity four clocked a time of 7:44.30 to take third, then finished in 7:53.34 later in the afternoon for a second place effort. The second and third varsity eights were third in the morning session and second in both of their afternoon rows.
Cornell will have two weeks of training before hosting Dartmouth (The Parent's Plate) and Brown (The Dunn Dowl) on Saturday, April 23 on the Cayuga Lake Inlet.
