ITHACA, N.Y. – THe Cornell baseball team is set to host Ivy League rival Dartmouth in a three-game series at Hoy Field this weekend. The series is slated to begin with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m., with the series finale scheduled for noon on Sunday.
Cornell bounced back after getting swept by Penn this past weekend, winning Wednesday's non-conference matchup with regional foe Binghamton 10-9 in extra innings. The Big Red came back from two separate multi-run deficits in the game, utilizing 11 pitchers and overcoming six errors in the process.
Max Jensen came up huge for the Big Red, driving in three runs, including the game winning run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. Cornell also enjoyed big contributions from
Ryan Porter,
Wils Guy, and
Sam Kaplan, who combined for six hits, three runs batted in, and five runs scored. Freshman
Tom Clancy earned the win for the Big Red, the first of his collegiate career. The victory halted a five-game skid for Cornell and improved its record to 8-18 on the season.
Max Jensen has been strong offensively for the Big Red in conference play this season, posting a batting average of .383 with a 1.086 OPS with 10 RBIs in 12 games against conference opponents. Junior
Wils Guy has also been impressive for the Big Red of late, stringing together a four-game hit streak and tallying eight stolen bases in 10 attempts on the season.
Dartmouth will bring a 17-13 overall record into this weekend's series with Cornell. The Big Green has been tough on conference opponents so far this season, posting an 8-4 record in Ivy League play. Dartmouth is playing at a high level, winning their past six games. Dartmouth is coming off a three-game sweep of Princeton, outscoring the Tigers 33-15 in those games. In their most recent action, Dartmouth downed Siena 11-4 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon..
Dartmouth has enjoyed offensive success in Ivy League play this season, with six different players hitting .300 or better against conference opponents. Tyler Cox has been on fire at the plate in conference play , posting an impressive .509 batting average with a 1.223 OPS, a total of 16 RBI and a home run.
Cornell has not won consecutive games since it swept a Saturday doubleheader against Yale earlier this month, and the Big Red will be looking to change that against Dartmouth this weekend.
