ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell freshman right-hander Ross Yoshida has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Yoshida, who previously claimed the honor on April 20, went 5.1 hitless innings against Columbia over the weekend while posting a 0.19 WHIP — the fourth-best mark among qualifying Division I pitchers over the past week.

Yoshida picked up his third win in as many weekends in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Lions, tossing 4.1 hitless innings before returning to throw a scoreless ninth in the nightcap. His 5.1 innings without allowing a hit were tied with Delaware's Matt Reyes for the fifth-most among the 19 qualifying pitchers nationally who did not surrender a hit over the past week, trailing only USC's Diego Velazquez (7.0 IP), Nicholls' Shaydon Benson, South Dakota State's Drew McDowell and Siena's Casey Vaughn (6.0 IP each).

Closing the regular season on a dominant run, Yoshida allowed just two earned runs over his final 19 2/3 innings across six appearances for a 0.92 ERA, a 0.46 WHIP and a .100 opponent average (6-for-100). Yoshida concludes his first collegiate season 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 43 2/3 innings, holding opponents to a .199 average (31-for-156) and one save. His 42 strikeouts ranked fourth among Cornell freshman pitchers in program history — the most by a Big Red first-year since Noah Keller fanned 50 in 2023 — making him one of seven Cornell freshmen to reach the 40-strikeout mark.

With its originally scheduled regular-season finale at Binghamton on Tuesday evening canceled, Cornell finished the regular season 11-26 overall and 8-13 in Ivy League play.
