PRINCETON, N.J. --
Spencer Edwards twirled a gem in Cornell baseball's game two victory, salvaging a split on Saturday afternoon at Clarke Field. The Big Red's two-run first frame held up as it improved to 7-13 (3-5 Ivy) with the 7-1 win after dropping the opener 12-3. The Tigers dropped to 3-21 (1-7 Ivy).
Game One
Max Jensen was 3-for-4, including a first inning home run that put the Big Red into the lead, but the home team plated nine unanswered and cruised to a 12-3 victory.
Wils Guy and
Joe Hollerbach had two hits apiece for the Big Red, but a big day by Jackson Emus (6.0 innings, six hits, one run, 10 strikeouts) on the mound and Nadir Lewis at the plate (3-for-4, double, home run, five RBI) was too much to overcome.
Game Two
Edwards struck out eight and scattered four hits and one run over 8.0 innings of strong work to pick up his second win of the season on the mound, while
Braden Mack worked a perfect ninth to close ou the win.
Wils Guy was 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of RBI, while
Ryan Ross blasted a solo shot in the sixth inning. The Big Red led 7-0 before the Tigers scratched together a run in the seventh, but never seriously threatened.
Cornell plated two in the first on an RBI double by Hollerbach and a sacrifice fly by
Nathan Waugh. It stayed that way until the fifth when Guy singled in two runs. Ross' homer in sixth made it 5-0, and two more insurance runs in the seventh sealed the Big Red's victory.
The Tigers had just one hit through five innings with Edwards in complete control as the Big Red built its lead.
The two teams will meet in the rubber game on Sunday, April 10 at 12 p.m.
