Sharp-Shooting Women's Lacrosse Tops Penn, 13-9

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Amanda Cramer and Genevieve DeWinter each recorded a hat trick and seven different Cornell players tallied a goal as the Big Red topped Penn 13-9 on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. Cornell improved to 7-4 (3-1 Ivy), while the Quakers slipped to 3-8 (0-3 Ivy) as the Big Red snapped Penn's two-game win streak in the series.

Sophie Alois and Josie Vogel each had three goals for the Big Red, with Cramer assisting on a score to complete a four-point effort. DeWinter and Annie Thomas had four draw controls each, with the senior adding a pair of caused turnovers. Hilary Hoover and Olivia Wall each had two caused turnovers in the win. Katie McGahan had 10 saves, including six in the second half and four in the fourth quarter to stifle any Penn rally. The Big Red scored on 13 of its 29 shots, including cashing in on 5-of-6 on the free position.

Anna Brandt led the Quakers with three goals and seven draw controls, while Kennon Moon added seven draw wins as well. Kelly Van Hoesen made seven saves over the first three quarters. Penn held a 16-10 edge on the draw, including 11-4 in the second half despite being outscored 8-5.

Midway through the third, Cornell clung to a 7-6 lead, but a three-minute span that saw the Big Red up its lead to four (10-6) turned the tide. After the Quakers got on back, Amanda Cramer's third and final goal of the night with 18 seconds to play in the third quarter got it back to four to provide an answer.

The Quakers got back within two (11-9) midway through the fourth, but Cramer found Alois and later DeWinter added the insurance with 2:38 left on the clock to seal the victory.

Penn scored the game's first goal, but the Big Red responded with the equalizer 94 seconds later when Cramer beat the Penn goalkeeper to even the score at 1-1. Cornell would never trail again. When Alois began a 3-0 Cornell scoring run bridging the first and second quarters, the Quakers would never draw even either.

The Big Red will host nationally-ranked Syracuse on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.
