Softball Drops Doubleheader At Ivy Leader Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton flexed its muscles in a doubleheader sweep of the Cornell softball team on Saturday afternoon, earning 6-0 and 8-0 wins at the Princeton Softball Complex. The Tigers improved to 15-12 (8-3 Ivy), while the Big Red fell to 8-15 (2-6 Ivy).

Game One
Princeton built a 6-0 lead after three innings and never let the Big Red back in it despite two hits from Lilly Travieso. Allison Kerce doubled in the first to get Cornell off to a good start, while Hanna Crist and Olivia Rooney also hit safely in game one.

Sophia Marsalo was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the Princeton offense. Ali Blanchard struck out 12 over 6.1 innings of work, allowing all five Big Red hits and shared the shutout with Molly Chambers, who struck out the game's final two hitters en route to the Princeton win.

Game Two
Princeton scored four in the first and Alexis Laudenslager made it stand up as the Tigers swept the doubleheader.

Marisa Zorrilla had the lone hit of the game for the visitors with a third inning single to lead off the inning.

Cornell got one-hit in the nightcap, a game that ended after five innings. Laudenslager improved to 6-7 on the season with 4.0 innings of one-hit pitching, striking out three. Molly Chambers ended the contest with a perfect fifth to shut the door on the Big Red.

The Big Red will attempt to avoid a sweep when the teams complete the three-game set with a single game on Sunday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m.
