LEONIA, N.J. -- The Cornell lightweight rowing team claimed the Geiger Cup on Sunday morning at Overpeck Park, claiming its second title after the varsity eight nipped the Lions by just over 2.5 seconds at the line. The Big Red won two of the three contested races against the Lions on their home course.
The Big Red hit the line in 5:58.2 over the 2,000 meter course, just ahead of the Lions (6:00.7). Cornell also won the third varsity race by nearly 10 seconds, posting a 6:08.9. Columbia captured a win in the second varsity eight race, its lone win of the day, bu 4.3 seconds.
Cornell will race in the EARC Sprints Regatta over two days beginning on Saturday, May 14 in Worcester, Mass.
