Lightweight Rowing Hosts Penn, Harvard For Matthews Cup and Leonard Trophy To Open Up Spring Slate

| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell Lightweight Rowing team will open up it's Spring slate as they will play host to the Matthews/Leonard Cup. The Big Red will welcome Pennsylvania and Harvard on Saturday for competition on the Cayuga Inlet.

Tyler Nase, the Henry E. Bartels '48 Head Coach of Lightweight Rowing, expressed his excitement as his team will make a return to the water for the Spring campaign. "Home opener, season opener, and on the Inlet - it doesn't get much better than that. This group is excited for the opportunity to race, to row with pride, and to show some heart.", Nase mentioned.

Penn owns the Matthews Cup and Leonard Trophy, as the Quakers regained possession of the hardware in 2025 after narrowly defeating Cornell in the first three varsity 8+ races on the Schuylkill River. The Big Red last took ownership of the Matthew Cup and Leonard's trophy in 2024.
