ITHACA, N.Y. -- Former Cornell great and Olympic medalist Kyle Dake '13 won gold and volunteer assistant coach
Nick Gwiazdowski claimed silver in their respective weight classes for Team USA at the 2022 Pan-American Games in Acapulco, Mexico. Dake earned the title at 74kg, while Gwiazdowski represented the US at 125kg.
Dake topped world silver medalist Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico by a 10-1 margin in the finals and picking up a pair of tech falls to reach the gold medal match. It was his second time atop the podium at 74g, capturing gold in 2021 in Guatemala in addition to his 2022 medal.
Gwiazdowski picked up a pair of tech falls to reach the finals, where he succumbed to late exposure points in a 5-3 defeat to former Oregon State All-American Amar Dhesi of Canada.
