BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Graduate student
Marguerite Lorenzo earned a spot at the 2022 NCAA Track & Field championships after matching the top clearance in the high jump at the NCAA Preliminary East Round at the Robert C. Haugh Complex on Saturday. She grabbed one of 12 coveted spots at the NCAAs this season and joins senior
Beatrice Juskeviciute (heptathlon) in qualifying for nationals.
Lorenzo grabbed sixth place, matching the highest height cleared with a 1.84 (6-0 1/2), matching the school record set by All-American Sarah Wilfred in 2006. She cleared the opening jump at 1.71m, 1.76m and 1.81m, failed on her first jump at 1.84m but nailed her second attempt. The competitors did not attempt 1.87m as enough competitors were eliminated that the qualified jumpers did not need to go further. She is just the second Cornell high jumper to surpass 6-0.
Brooke Overholt finished 14th in the 400m hurdles finals, with a 58.24 placing her sixth in a very fast first heat. The cutoff time for qualifying in the top 12 was 57.93. The senior closes her career ranked No. 2 in school history in the event and as the 2022 Heptagonal champion.
