NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Cornell women's track and field team finds itself in the thick of the Ivy League team race after day one at the 2022 Outdoor Heptagonal Championship at Yale's Dwyer Track. The Big Red sits tied for second place with 26 points with
Victoria Atkinson winning the first individual event title of the meet for the Big Red with a big school record in the pole vault. Six athletes qualified for Sunday's finals and five scored on day one.

Victoria Atkinson won a title in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.20m (13-9 1/4), nearly a foot higher than anyone else at the competition and breaking her own school record by 1.5 inches. Her mark is 5.75 inches higher than anyone else in Cornell history.

Natalie Morris crossed the line fifth in the 10,000 meters in a time of 35:31.47, adding two points to the Big Red's team total.

Lauren Jones was the runner-up in the long jump (5.95m, 19-6 1/4) while
Jessica Kolesar (5.80m, 19-0 1/2) grabbed fifth.

Beatrice Juskeviciute is in prime position to claim her second Heps title in the Heptathlon, sitting first with 3,343 points and finishing first in three of four events.
Rachel Bonnet is sixth with 2,718 points.
• Juskeviciute also reached the podium with a third-place finish in the javelin with a 43.76m (143.7).

Brooke Overholt (third, 13.74) and
Ama Boham (fifth, 13.89) will race for th 100m hurdles title after finishing second and third, respectively, in heat No. 1. Overholt's time lowered her personal best by .06 and is No. 2 all-time at Cornell, while Boham sits fifth in Cornell history.
• Overholt was the lone runner to break a minute in the 400m hurdles, qualifying as the top seed in 59.77, with
Nyia Cummings finishing fifth in 1:03.30.

Kayleigh Furth will attempt to score in the 400m, qualifying for finals with a time of 57.12 to grab eighth.
•
Gwen Parks qualified sixth in the 800m in 2:14.55.
