ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's lightweight rowing team will wrap up the 2022 season this weekend when it begins competition on Friday, June 3 at the 119th edition of the annual IRA Regatta on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The event continues through Sunday, June 5.
Cornell has won IRAs eight times, most recently in 2019. It will be Cornell's first time competing in the regatta since that season, as its 2020 and 2021 opportunities were doused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Big Red lightweight varsity eight most recently placed fourth at the 2022 Eastern Sprints after an unbeaten regular season. The second varsity eight was third at Eastern Sprints.
Varsity eight heats will be held on Friday morning beginning at 8:50 a.m., with second varsity eight heats also happening that morning. The semifinals for the varsity fours begins at 4:20. On Saturday, the varsity four finals kick off at 10:40 a.m. with the grand final occurring at 11:20 a.m. Sunday's schedule includes the second varsity eight finals at 9:40 a.m. and culminates with the grand finals of the first varsity eight (10:20 a.m.).
