ITHACA, N.Y. –
Melanie Hall has been named Chair of the Board for the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), effective June 15, 2022.
Hall is the head coach at Cornell University, just finishing her 28th year on staff and her first as head coach. She previously spent eight years as associate head coach and 21 as an assistant. Hall was a member of the WCGA Board of Directors from 2018 -22, when she accepted the role of Chair of the Board. Hall was on the WCGA Awards Committee (2018-22), was the northeast regional score verifier for six years, is currently on the committee for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship, and has held numerous other committee positions throughout her years in college coaching.
The WCGA was restructured in May of 2022, adding a Chair of the Board position to replace the President & Vice President roles. Hall will be the first Chair of the Board for the WCGA and will work in tandem with Executive Director Jason Bauer. Prior to the restructure, Kerrie Turner (Bowling Green) had been in the role of President of the Association for six years, seeing it through the toughest days of the pandemic.
As the Chair, Hall will be in charge of administering and enforcing the association's policies, procedures and strategic plan, work with the board to manage and supervise the duties of the executive director, and be a representative to the NCAA, as well as the USOPC and ICAC. The mission of the WCGA is to strive to ensure safe, competitive, and educational opportunities for our student-athletes in collegiate women's gymnastics.
"It is a great honor to be named Chair of the Board for the WCGA," Hall said. "As a former board member, it was rewarding to work to promote the growth of college gymnastics, be an advocate for our association, and to work with the NCAA and other organizations that champion women's gymnastics. As the Chair, I look forward to leading the WCGA, working with our executive director, board of directors, and all coaches. I'm excited for us to continue to be advocates for Division I/II/III schools that provide incredible opportunities for athletes that want to fulfill their dreams of being successful college gymnasts and student-athletes."
Hall was a competitive gymnast for 11 years at the club level and four at the collegiate level. A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Hall graduated from Radford University with a bachelor's degree in graphic design. She was a four year scholarship athlete at Radford and was a school record holder on the uneven bars. Melanie has two children and currently resides in Ithaca, N.Y
