ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Friedberg made four saves in his collegiate debut, propelling the Big Red to its 2-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara last Friday. The victory for Friedberg made him the first Cornell goalkeeper to win in his first collegiate start since Scott Brody in 2007.

The Westfield, N.J., native followed up his collegiate debut with his first clean sheet, making one save in Cornell's 1-0 victory over UC Irvine on Monday afternoon.

Through his first two collegiate games, Friedberg has a 2-0 record with a 0.50 goals against average and has logged an .833 save percentage. His five saves are the second-most by an Ivy League keeper, trailing Dartmouth's Costi Christodoulou, who was selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts last week.

Since the Ivy League began honoring the Rookie of the Week in 1990, Friedberg is the second Cornell goalkeeper to be tabbed the conference's top weekly newcomer. Quinn O'Sullivan was the only other Big Red player to earn the accolade back on Oct. 12, 1992.
