PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell gymnastics team built on its opening weekend by crushing its season high with a 191.450 in taking third at Temple's Green Meet on Friday evening at McGonigle Hall. The Big Red score was more than a point and a half higher than it registered in the opener.
The Big Red had a pair of gymnasts finish in the top three in vault with
Sydney Beers the runner-up with a 9.775, just .025 ahead of teammate
Regina Walton in third. Freshman Michaela Defrancisco was seventh with a 9.700. In all, its 48.550 team event score was its highest of the night.
Cornell had a pair of top 10 finishes on bars, with
Kate Michelini (seventh, 9.725) and
Katie Fitzpatrick (10th, 9.675) and one on beam - Walton in eighth with a 9.600, her second top 10 effort of the evening.
Beers was fifth on floor with a 9.750, while freshman
Cami Whitaker grabbed 10th with a 9.650. When all the scores were tallied, Beers went 38.675 to take first in the all-around. Michelini was third with a 37.125.
Temple won the four-team meet with a 193.650, while LIU was the runner-up with a 192.875. Cornell slid in ahead of Gymnastics East Conference foe Bridgeport (191.225).

• The Big Red will kick off four consecutive weekends at home beginning with LIU on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at Newman Arena.
