Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Takes Down #5 Colgate, 4-2

The 10th-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team took down No. 5 Colgate 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink to even the weekend series.

The first 10 minutes of the opening period was a defensive back-and-forth. Junior forward Kolty Kaltounkova took advantage of the power play as she opened the scoring with a Raider goal at the 10:02 mark.

Cornell and Colgate went shot-for-shot over the course of the second period, with neither team finding any luck until Leah MacSween blasted a shot from Izzy Daniel and Gillis Frechette during a Big Red power play to knot the game up at 1-1. Less than 20 seconds later, chaos ensued around the Raider net, ending in Gabbie Rud finding the back of the net to put Cornell in front 2-1 heading into the final period of play.

Elyssa Biederman scored for the Raiders midway through the third period to even the game once again. The Big Red response came less than one minute later as reigning ECAC Hockey Player of the Month Izzy Daniel skated her way down the ice for the game winning goal (assisted by Alexa Davis). Colgate played with a six-on-five advantage for the remainder of the contest, which ultimately resulted in a Big Red empty net goal from standout senior forward Gillis Frechette in the closing minute.

Brynn Dulac completed the game with 20 saves against 22 shots from the Raiders. Most notably, her efforts during the Colgate six-on-five advantage at the end of the final period proved to be a major factor. Dulac saved three key shots at the end of the third period during the Colgate advantage that helped lead the Big Red to victory.
