ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior defenseman
Sam Malinski, sophomore goaltender
Ian Shane, and freshman forward
Dalton Bancroft have received weekly honors from ECAC Hockey, the conference announced Monday morning.
Malinski was named ECAC's Defender of the Week, following a five-assist weekend in which the Big Red defeated top-ranked Quinnipiac and Princeton at Lynah Rink. Four of Malinski's five assists came on Cornell power plays, which has scored at least once in each of its last six games.
In the Big Red's 4-0 shutout of the Bobcats, Malinski recorded a pair of assists before factoring in all three Cornell goals in a 3-2 win over Princeton on Saturday.
The pair of multi-assist games for Malinski increased his career-long point streak to six games, which is the longest by a Cornell defenseman since Alex Green early in the 2019-20 season. Over the last six contests, Malinski has 12 points (two goals, 10 assists).
Shane earned Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time this year after winning both games this past weekend. In the pair of victories, Shane stopped 49 of 51 shots, good for a .961 save percentage.
With the shutout against Quinnipiac, he registered his second shutout over a top-10 opponent this season, joining the 6-0 victory over then-No. 6 UConn at the Frozen Apple on Nov. 26.
Bancroft was tabbed the conference's top first-year player for a second time this season after netting a pair of goals and adding an assist last weekend. Both of Bancroft's tallies came on Cornell power plays.
Cornell, who is 10-2-1 over its last 13 games, will make its annual trip to New England this weekend to play Ivy League rivals Dartmouth and Harvard. Both games for the Big Red (12-6-1) will be at 7 p.m. and game action will be broadcast on ESPN+ and WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM).
