ITHACA, N.Y. — Five Cornell men's hockey alumni will represent the Big Red at NHL Rookie Camps and prospect tournaments this weekend. Forwards
Dalton Bancroft, Ben Berard,
Sullivan Mack, Jack Malone, and defenseman
Hank Kempf are all set to hit the ice this weekend.
Bancroft, who signed a
one-year entry-level deal with the Boston Bruins in April, will attend the team's rookie camp. The 6-foot-3 forward posted 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists) in 36 games for Cornell last season before making his professional debut with the Bruins' AHL affiliate Providence Bruins, scoring once in five games.
Berard heads to his second NHL Rookie Camp — this time with the Vancouver Canucks after attending Dallas' camp in 2023. He split last season between the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL) and the Abbotsford Canucks (AHL), producing 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists) over 51 combined games, including 20 goals and 20 assists with the Wings. Vancouver will face the Seattle Kraken in a pair of games at the 2025 Prospect Showcase in Everett and Seattle, Wash.
Malone returns to the New Jersey Devils' rookie camp for a second straight year after tallying 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in 57 games during his first full AHL season. His year was highlighted by a first-period natural hat trick against Bridgeport on Jan. 8. Both Bancroft and Malone will compete in the 2025 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, N.Y., and will face one another Sunday at noon at LECOM Harborcenter.
Mack will join the New York Rangers' rookie camp after signing a
one-year AHL contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack in April. The Anchorage, Alaska, native set career highs in all three major scoring categories (9-15—24) for the Big Red in 2024-25, which included having 17 points (6-11—17) over the final 13 games. He scored the game-winning power-play goal with 10 seconds left in Cornell's dramatic 4-3 upset of top-ranked Michigan State in the Toledo Regional semifinal of the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship.
Kempf will skate with the Colorado Avalanche at the 2025 Rookie Showcase Tournament. A steady presence on Cornell's blue line, he appeared in all 36 games last season, recording seven points (2-5—7) and 31 blocked shots. Off the ice, Kempf was the inaugural recipient of ECAC Hockey's men's Project Rosseau Community Service Award and was named a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award for the second straight season.
