ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Nick DeSantis has been named ECAC Hockey's Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.
In last week's non-conference series with AIC, DeSantis was tied with sophomore
Ondrej Psenicka for the team lead in points (3-1—4).
DeSantis scored twice in Cornell's 3-3 tie with the Yellow Jackets last Friday after registering his first career multi-point game in the Big Red's 8-4 victory the night prior.
With Wednesday's announcement, DeSantis became the third different Cornell first-year player to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Sean Donaldson (Nov. 21) and
Dalton Bancroft (Nov. 28) are the other Big Red players to receive the honor.
The weekly award also marks the fourth consecutive time a Cornell player has been honored by ECAC Hockey. Along with the freshmen trio, sophomore goaltender
Ian Shane was the conference's Goaltender of the Week on Dec. 5.
DeSantis, a native of Collegeville, Pa., currently leads Cornell in goal scoring with his five goals. Bancroft, Psenicka, and senior defenseman
Travis Mitchell are right behind DeSantis with four goals apiece.
Cornell (8-5-1, 5-3-0 ECAC) returns to the ice Friday when it travels to the Capital Region to square off against Union (8-10-1, 3-5-0 ECAC). Puck drop between the Big Red and Dutchmen is slated for 7 p.m. from Messa Rink at Achilles Center. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Jason Weinstein will also have the call on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM).
