ITHACA, N.Y. - The No.10-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated No.13-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions 4-1 on Friday night in the season opener from Lynah Rink. Cornell moved to 1-0-0 on the season, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 1-5-1.
Junior forward
Katie Chan, a transfer from Colgate, netted two Big Red goals in her Big Red debut. Freshman goaltender
Annelies Bergmann, who took the net for the first time of her Cornell career, registered 14 saves between the pipes and accumulated a .933 save percentage.
Five minutes into the contest, junior center
Lily Delianedis connected with Chan, putting Cornell up 1-0. Seven minutes later, senior winger
Izzy Daniel skated down the ice, eventually finding Chan for her second tally of the night.
The Nittany Lions responded late in the opening period, when Katelyn Roberts struck on a breakaway, moving the count to 2-1, pulling Penn State back within one.
The second period saw a handful of penalties from both squads, but Cornell would be the only side to take advantage. Delianedis (8:36) and
