At the 4:01 mark
Mckenna Van Gelder was tripped, leading to a Cornell skater advantage. The entire power-play was in the Big Red offensive zone, but no points came out of it as the Lakers killed off the penalty.
Thea Johansson opened up the scoring nine minutes in, to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead.
Moments later, the Lakers were called for a body check sending the Big Red to another power-play. Jockims was called for a trip 30 seconds into the power-play, nulling the advantage and creating a 4 on 4 hockey situation. Both players would return to the ice two-minutes later with no damage done on the scoreboard.
The third penalty on Mercyhurst came 14 minutes into the period, due to a slashing by Mary Kromer. The Lakers stout penalty-kill would prove successful again, keeping the game at 1-0 heading into the break.
Daniel fired from the slot three-minutes into the second period, scoring her third goal of the series, giving the Big Red a much needed game-tying score. Jockims was ushered to the penalty box again 15-minutes into the frame for a slashing-infraction. As they've done often so far in this early season, Cornell made a stop during the power-play.
With five minutes to go into the contest, and the possibility of another overtime looming, Jockims darted toward the net finding the go-ahead goal, giving the Big Red it's first lead of the game. The Lakers gave themselves the 6 on 4 advantage by pulling their goalie, but that plan would backfire as Daniel would put in the insurance marker from deep.
Annelies Bergmann collected her third win of the season, saving 28 shot attempts on a .966 percentage. Eva Nystram had yet another strong game between the pipes for Mercyhurst, making 44 saves, although surrendering two.
