CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Cornell men's polo team secured a split at the University of Virginia Fall Tournament on Sunday with a 10-9 victory over Georgetown University.
Graduate senior Patricio Fraga-Errecart led the Big Red with six goals, and sophomore Benito Jaramillo Samper had four. The Big Red used a 3-1 run to secure the victory after falling behind 8-7 in the fourth chukker.
"Our guys were able to adjust against the Hoyas and play more of their game - fundamental Cornell-style arena polo: taking their man early, use of the wall position both offensively and defensively, decisive and hard back shots well placed for their teammates to receive, and slowing on end walls to complete the play and to score goals," Anthony Condo, the Peter B. Orthwein '68 Head Coach of Polo, said. "I'm really proud of their adjustment and improvement from game to game this week."
Cornell started tournament play with a 19-2 loss to the University of Kentucky on Friday. Fara-Errecart scored the Big Red's lone goal — a two-pointer — in that contest.
