Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Downs Harvard 5-1, Earns Best Start In Program History

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The no. 7-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team down Harvard 5-1 at Bright-Landry Arena on Friday night. The Big Red improved to 9-0-1 on the season which is the best start in program history. The Crimson dropped to 0-7-1 on the year.

Cornell had five different goal scorers in the game. Kaitlin Jockims, Grace Dwyer, Katie Chan, Izzy Daniel, and Lily Delianedis registered Big Red goals on the night. Mckenna Van Gelder, Chan, Daniel, Dwyer, Delianedis, and Alexa Davis earned helpers on those tallies. Daniel (three), Dwyer (three), Delianedis (two), and Chan (two) collected multi-point performances.

The Big Red was met with adversity early in the first period when Avi Adam was called for a cross-checking infraction. The Cornell penalty-kill stood tall, leading to a boost in momentum for the Cornellians.

Moments later Kaitlin Jockims found the back of the net for the opening tally of the game. The Big Red found themselves on another skater-down scenario and stood up to the challenge with another stop.

The Crimson would commit a penalty late in the frame, which led to the first Cornell power-play of the contest. The Big Red put five shots on the net in less than one minute, with the fifth one sneaking past Alex Pellici coming from sophomore blue-liner Grace Dwyer. A few minutes later, Katie Chan found the back of the net on the second Big Red power-play of the night when Dwyer and Daniel found her in the middle of the Crimson defense for a precise tip-in.

Daniel netted the puck 10 minutes into the second stanza to extend the Big Red lead to 4-0 and encourage a goalie switch for the Crimson. With 15 seconds left in the period the Big Red found itself in the offensive zone with another chance at extending the lead and it did just that when Lily Delianedis poked the puck 5-hole on a rebound to give Cornell a 5-0 lead.

The Crimson would find their opening goal quickly into the final frame which would serve as their only tally of the contest. Both team's would hold off lighting the lamp for the remainder of the game, making way for the Cornell to earn its first victory over Harvard since 2020.

ECAC Hockey Rookie of The Week Annelies Bergmann collected 21 saves on the night to aid the Big Red to its best start in program history. She improved to 7-0-1 between the pipes this season.
