ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team fell 22-11 to North Texas on Thursday night in its first game in the 2023 Bill Field Invitational at the Oxley Equestrian Center.
North Texas, the defending Bill Field Invitational champions, took a 12-5 lead into halftime after scoring six goals in the first and second chukkers. Graduate senior Patricio Fraga-Errecart led the Big Red with six goals, and sophomore Benito Jaramillo Samper tallied four. Junior Christian Finlay had one.
"This was a tough loss for our guys," Anthony Condo, the Peter B. Orthwein '68 Head Coach of Polo, said. "We knew UNT would be a very formidable opponent, being both the defending Field Tournament and 2023 National Champions. The good news, though, is that a lot of what led to the disparity was self-inflicted and can be fixed by the time nationals roll around in the spring."
The Big Red fell to 4-3 on the season and has now lost two straight games.
