WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 5-1 in the final contest of the D1 in DC games at Medstar Capitals Iceplex on Saturday evening. Cornell dropped to 11-3-1, while the Gophers improved to 11-2-0.
Katie Chan registered the lone Big Red goal of the game. The tally was assisted by
Alexa Davis.
Minnesota put up two goals in the opening period of the game, one of which came short-handed during a Big Red power-play. Seven minutes into the second period Abby Murphy netted another one for Minnesota, moving the count to 3-0.
Cornell responded when Davis found Chan racing down the ice for a breakaway Big Red goal, clipping the Gopher advantage to two.
The game proved to be all Golden Gophers as they would tack on two more goals in the final stanza. As time wound down, Gopher forward Murphy was given a game misconduct infractions boarding.
Annelies Bergmann suffered her third loss in net on the year, collecting 27 saves on the afternoon.
