COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Junior
Summer Parker-Hall recorded a season-high 13 points as the Cornell women's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 Ivy) fell to the No. 15-ranked Ohio State (5-1, 0-0 BIG 10) by a score of 83-40 on Sunday afternoon from Value City Arena.
Freshman
Rachel Kaus also played solid minutes off the bench with six points and four rebounds, and
Emily Pape also had six points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Big Red, who held Ohio State below its season average scoring and also outrebounded the Buckeyes 39-37. Other notables for Cornell included
Kaya Ingram with four points and a team-high four assists and
Vivienne Knee with a career-high seven rebounds.
Cotie McMahon and Rebeka Mikulasikova each had 14 points to lead Ohio State, who had 33 points off of 26 Big Red turnovers in the victory. Taiyier Parks led the Buckeyes with eight rebounds in the first matchup between Cornell and Ohio State since 2006.
FIRST QUARTER
- Both teams started its first possessions with turnovers until Kaya Ingram scored a tough layup inside, giving Cornell a 2-0 lead.
- Ohio State would answer on its next possession, as Taylor Thierry forced a foul call on Emily Pape. The junior would knock down both from the charity stripe to tie things up at two.
- Ingram continued to drive inside the Buckeyes defense, using her left hand to get a friendly bounce off the iron, tying things up at four.
- The Buckeyes responded in a big way after the Ingram bucket, going on a 9-0 run to stretch its lead to 13-4.
- Freshman Rachel Kaus finally broke the Big Red's scoring drought of almost four minutes, cleaning up a missed shovel shot with a putback layup to get in the scorebook for the Big Red.
- After a Buckeye three, Azareya Kilgoe would slither through the Ohio State defense and find a wide-open Kaus all alone for an easy bucket to cut the deficit to seven. Summer Parker-Hall would follow that up a possession later with a step-back jumper to knock the Buckeyes' lead down to five.
- Despite the momentum swing, Cornell's offense went cold for the last two minutes of the first, allowing Ohio State to jump on a 6-0 run and have a 22-11 lead after 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Buckeyes kept its foot on the gas pedal to open the second, forcing consecutive Big Red turnovers that led to back-to-back layups, extending its lead to 17.
- Cornell finally broke its scoring drought that carried over from the final two minutes of the first, as Ingram found Parker-Hall for a crisp baseline jumper for the first Big Red bucket in over five minutes.
- The Buckeyes defense continued to cause issues, forcing five straight Big Red turnovers paired with another 9-0 run to stretch its lead even more.
- Parker-Hall's jumper was the only points Cornell registered in the period, as the Buckeyes held Cornell scoreless for the last 7:11 of the first half to head into the locker room up 45-13.
THIRD QUARTER
- The Big Red opened the third with the first points as Parker-Hall drove past three Buckeye defenders for her third bucket of the afternoon. Emily Pape and Mia Beam followed that up with a made jumper and layup for their first points on consecutive possessions to chip away at the deficit.
- Parker-Hall continued to have a hot start to the second half, knocking down her first three-pointer of the season and the first of the game for the Big Red, pushing the deficit down to its lowest of the quarter at 26.
- Ohio State responded after Parker-Hall's three, going on a 14-2 run aided by four Cornell turnovers to grab its largest lead at 66-26.
- Cornell's defense started stepped up after the 14-2 run, holding the Buckeyes offense scored for almost three minutes. Parker-Hall fifth basket and a Pape jumper were mixed in for the Big Red on offense during that stretch, making the score 66-30.
- However, the Buckeyes would have the last run of the quarter with a 5-0 run to be up 71-30 heading into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Jada Davis recorded her first points of the year and the first points of the fourth for Cornell with a jumper that rolled off the iron and into the basket, becoming the eighth Big Red athlete to pick up points. Clarke Jackson would follow up Davis' jumper with back-to-back jumpers to make the score 75-36.
- Parker-Hall continued to be the workhorse for the Big Red offense after a Buckeye made three, getting a friendly kiss off the glass for her 13th point on the night.
- Cornell and Ohio State hit a dry spell with no points over almost three minutes. Emma Shumate broke the scoring drought for the Buckeyes with a three to put them back up by 43.
- The Big Red had the final possession but could not capitalize as a Sarah Hathorn three could not find the bottom of the cylinder. Ohio State would dribble out the last eighteen seconds and secure its second-consecutive win over the Big Red, 83-40.

- The Big Red has a quick turnaround as it will head to Binghamton to renew its New York rivalry with the Bearcats on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6:07 p.m. from Dr. Bai Lee Court. The Big Red and the Bearcats faced off on the same date a year ago in Ithaca, with Cornell grabbing a 71-48 victory.
