Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#10 Big Red Women's Ice Hockey Takes Down #7 Yale, 6-1

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team surged past the no. 7-ranked Yale Bulldogs, 6-1, at Lynah Rink on Friday night. Cornell remains unbeaten, moving to 7-0-1 on the season. Yale dropped to 3-2-0 on the year.

Six different Cornell skaters scored goals on the night. Gabbie Rud, Rory Guilday, Lily Delianedis, Izzy Daniel, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Claudia Yu registered Big Red tallies. Ashley Messier, Daniel (two), Rud, Avi Adam, Delianedis, Yu, and Katie Chan (two) registered helpers.

The Big Red rushed out of the gates against the Bulldogs, putting in two goals in the first seven minutes. Adam and Yu found Rud skating down the ice as she wrapped around the back of the goalie net and found the back of the far side for the opening tally of the game.

Four minutes later, Guilday intercepted the puck and maneuvered around the Bulldog defenders to find space for a slap shot goal in the front of the net.

The Big Red would commit two costly penalties at the end of the half, causing a 5 on 3 advantage for Yale.

Six seconds into the second period Yale, still on the two skater advantage, won the face off and skated down the ice for a grade A opportunity which would hit the back of the bin to cut the lead down to 2-1. Cornell would kill off the remainder of the second penalty.

Shortly after the penalty-kill, the Big Red responded when Daniel stole the puck from a Bulldog and found her long-time line-mate Delianedis cutting towards the net for a Big Red goal.

The Cornellians found their groove in the second period, tacking on two more goals from Daniel and Van Gelder (power-play), to take an emphatic 5-1 lead into the final stanza.

The insurance marker came one minute into the third, when Messier and Rud found Yu for the game's final tally.

Annelies Bergmann stood tall in the net, making 26 saves, and only allowing one goal which came in a 5 on 3 situation. Bergmann earned her fifth win of the season, improving her record to 5-0-1.
