#10 Women's Ice Hockey Closes Weekend With 5-1 Victory Over Brown

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated Brown 5-1 on Saturday evening at Lynah Rink. With the victory, the Big Red matched its best start in program history, which came in the 2019-20 campaign where the Cornellians finished the season ranked first in the nation. Cornell remains undefeated, moving to 8-0-1 on the season, while Brown falls to 3-5-0.

Izzy Daniel, Lily Delianedis, Grace Dwyer, Avi Adam, and Karel Prefontaine registered Big Red goals on the night. Katie Chan (two), Delianedis, Prefontaine, Beatrice Perron-Roy, Ashley Messier, and Caroline Chan earned helpers.

The opening period was closely contested, with neither team really skating away in the shots on goal category. The Big Red handed the Bears prime opportunities to light the lamp at Lynah Rink, taking two penalties, one of which came in major fashion.

During the major penalty, first-year goaltender Annelies Bergmann saw five shots test her between the pipes, as she would allow none to find the back of the net. Bergmann and the Big Red penalty kill would also stand strong on the second Brown advantage.

With less than 30 second remaining in the first period, Delianedis swung the puck around the boards finding Chan who would gather the puck to find Daniel streaking across the ice for a timely Big Red goal.

Cornell would explode in the second period, scoring three goals which came from Delianedis, Dwyer, and Adam (unassisted). Dwyer's goal was assisted by two freshman (Prefontaine and Perron-Roy), giving Perron-Roy her first point in a Cornell jersey. Brown swapped out goalies midway, when Megane Pilon entered the contest for Kaley Doyle.

Cornell would tack on an insurance marker six minutes into the final frame, making way for the Big Red to earn its eighth win of the season.

Bergmann saved 11 shots on the night en route to her sixth win between the pipes this year. Her record in goal moves to 8-0-1 on the year.
