PRINCETON, N.J. — The Cornell lightweight rowing program had a strong showing at the Princeton Chase on Sunday afternoon, garnering a total of six first-place finishes.
In the first round of racing, Cornell's 'A' boat in the lightweight 8+ finished first overall, finishing 5.694 seconds ahead of Princeton's top crew with a time of 13:00.339. It was Cornell's first time winning the event since 2018.
Cornell's second varsity eight finished second among second entries as it finished just over three-tenths of a second behind Princeton's 'B' crew. Cornell's 'C', 'D', and 'E' entries all finished with the best times in their classifications.
Later on in the second round of racing, Cornell's 8+ 'A' boat placed second among lightweight programs and finished third overall with a time of 13:22.620. Finishing right behind Cornell's top-finishing boat was its 'B' crew, who placed third for lightweights and fourth overall with its 13:28.911 time.
Rounding out the first-place finishes for the Big Red was its coxed four and straight four as both crews concluded their respective as the top-finishing lightweight boat races second overall behind Princeton. Cornell's second coxed four entry earned a silver medal after edging out Navy's top lightweight entry.
