ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's track and field team opened up the 2023-24 season at the Greg Page Relays with the multi-events and sprints at Barton Hall on Friday evening.
Margaux Rawson was the champion in the pentathlon, claiming 3486 points on the day and finishing over 40 points ahead of the second-place finisher.
Lauren Jones sprinted herself into the top-10 Cornell 60-meter dashers of all-time list, earning gold.
Rawson took the crown in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, and the 800-meter run. Rawson's highest scoring event on the afternoon came in the 60-meter hurdles, scoring 877 points. She took sixth-place in the shot put (8.04 meters), and third in the long-jump (5.11 meters).
Maddie Packer and
Elaina Styer followed Rawson on the final rankings, respectively. Packer took second in the high jump (1.60 meters), shot put (11.05 meters), and long jump (5.32 meters). Styer came in second-place in the 800-meter run (2:37.21), boosting herself up to third-place during the final pentathlon event of the day.
In the first round of the 60-meter dash, four Cornellians clinched spots in the final round.Â
Lauren Jones led all runners with her speedy time of 7.48 seconds.Â
Takiya Henson handled business in her heat, taking the top spot with a 7.65-second mark. Big Red sprinterÂ
Imani Reid was next up in the same heat, grabbing a 7.70-second time that held her in the fourth-place spot among all runners.Â
Brianna Beckham clinched the seventh spot in the 60-meter finals, holding on to a second-place finish (7.82) in her heat.
Jones climbed into the top-10 all-time 60-meter sprinters, clocking a 7.49-second time in the finals, which was good enough for the top-spot. Reid (third - 7.64), Henson (fourth - 7.67), and Beckham (sixth - 7.74) gave a strong effort in the 60-meter championship.
Anika Sukumar had the Big Red's highest triple jump, marking 11.89 meters.
Abby Nonnenberg registered the longest weight throw for Cornell, clinching a 15.67-meter mark.
