Mosko Concludes Pool Play at World Juniors With Goal For Team Slovakia

12/31/2023 6:30:00 PM

GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Cornell men's hockey freshman defenseman Marian Mosko concluded pool play at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship by scoring one of Team Slovakia's two goals as the Slovaks fell to the United States, 10-2, on Sunday at the Frölundaborg.

Mosko's goal evened the game with the Americans after Michigan forward Rutger McGroarty opened the scoring with the first of his three goals. Just over two and a half minutes later, Mosko took a shot from the left point that deflected off of Boston University sophomore defenseman Lane Hutson and past Michigan State goaltender Trey Augustine.

Team USA would score the next two goals to increase its lead to 3-1 before Filip Mesar cut Slovakia's lead in half. The Americans ended up netting the final seven goals of the contest, five of which came in the third period.

With the Americans' victory over Slovakia, Team USA claimed first place in Group B while Slovakia finished in second.

Mosko appeared in all four pool play games for Team Slovakia and Sunday's goal was his lone point of the tournament to date. Over his four appearances, Mosko has registered 44:01 minutes of ice time, averaging out to around 11 minutes per game.

Slovakia will face Finland (No. 3 seed in Group A) in the quarterfinals, which will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
